WHO ARE WE
Virtual Carrier Air Wing 5
We are a virtual air wing which operates American naval aircraft such as the F/A-18C and F-14A in Digital Combat Simulator.
Based on the North American west coast. Virtual CVW-5 is a DCS MilSim Group that attempts emulate the real CVW-5 of the mid-1990s. We define MilSim through tactical operations and expectations of knowledge. This means that as a group, we strive to simulate as closely as possibly the tactical operations of real world Naval Aviators. To do this we expect that our members obtain a minimum amount of knowledge on the procedures governing the aircraft of your choice which we ensure through the use of a regimented training syllabus.
At Virtual CWV-5 do not believe in conducting multi-hour briefings or debriefings, our missions are considerably shorter than real life sorties, and we do not impose any form of military discipline.
VISION
To emulate the real CVW-5 of the mid-1990s as closely as practical / possible within the limitations of DCS. That we will find the balance of realism/practicality that will create a constructive environment for all
MISSION
To provide a community to virtual aviators that finds the right balance between realism and fun.
PRINCIPLES

We are not actual pilots or commissioned officers in the Navy, family and life comes first.

We do not call anyone sir/ma’am, rank reflects involvement and expectations to the group

We have a set of standards based upon NATOPS that all pilots are expected to follow to the best of their ability

A well defined, CVW wide training regimen is implemented including initial training in basic airmanship in the T-45 prior to squadron selection

Each Squadron is responsible for ensuring their squadron is combat effective

Missions will be run realistically with pilot assignments set prior to mission brief. Missions will also be without the F-10 map and use only neutral dots as needed (preferred no dots)
